eBook news

eBooks have been around for a number of years now, and we’ve been selling them on the Cicerone website since early 2010.

There are really two sorts of eBook, depending on what device you want to read it on.

The first looks on screen just like the printed book, and is derived from the PDF file we use to print the book. This is an Adobe eBook or AEB for short, which can be viewed on a PC, Mac or iPad (using our free iPad App).

This format is available to buy from the Cicerone website, and to read your eBook you’ll need to the free Adobe Digital Editions software installed. Nearly all of our range is included, plus when you buy the printed version from our website you can get the eBook version at 50% discount.

Then there is the version with re-flowable text. This is called ePub, although Amazon uses a similar format called Mobi for their Kindle. This version is a lot more complicated to make, involving extracting all the content from the book and reassembling it so it works in this format. It can be read on a PC or Mac using Digital Editions programme, a few online eBook stores have also developed Apps which work on a tablet or suitable phone device. Amazon also have Kindle apps to allow you to read their Kindle files on the iPhone, PC, Mac, iPad and Android devices.

The following Cicerone guidebooks are available in the kindle store as of July 2011 with more titles being added each month:
