Alan Kimber

Alan Kimber Biography

In compiling this guidebook for winter climbers visiting Ben Nevis and Glen Coe, the author, Alan Kimber, has drawn on thirty-two years of mountain experience gained from living in Fort William. During this period he has worked as both instructor and mountain guide with a variety of different organisations, from private outdoor centres to national bodies for mountain training. In addition to developing an expert knowledge of the peaks in this guidebook, the author has derived a deep sense of personal satisfaction and enjoyment from travelling and climbing amongst Britain's highest and most demanding peaks in winter.

Alan Kimber has also visited the Himalayas, Peru, Alaska, Baffin Island, Labrador and Africa, and worked numerous seasons in the European Alps. At present he operates his own mountain training and guiding company based in Fort William. With his wife, Sue, he also runs self-catering accommodation for visiting climbers.
