Jim Rubery
Biography
Jim Rubery has lived in Yorkshire since 1975, having moved to the south of the county after being educated in the Midlands. He is a very keen participant in outdoor pursuits, spending a great deal of his spare time over the years climbing, mountaineering, walking, skiing, canoeing and has even dabbled with caving and sailing. He started writing for the climbing press in the early 90's, but has had a regular walking column in Yorkshire Life magazine entitled 'Rambling with Rubery', since 1995. This is also now a regular monthly feature in the sister magazines, Cheshire Life and Lancashire Life. Wherever possible, Jim tries to incorporate a place of interest along the way in his walks, often a historic building or area of archaeological importance. It is from this that his love of historical places has grown, whether it be a stone circle from a prehistoric age, a ruined castle or abbey from medieval times or a relatively modern edifice from the Industrial Revolution.
