Chris Townsend

Biography

His fifteen books include the award winning The Backpacker's Handbook, Rambler's Guide: Isle of Skye, Rambler's Guide: Ben Nevis & Glen Coe, and The Munros and Tops, an account of his continuous round of all the 3000 foot summits in Scotland, the first time this walk had been done. This was Chris's second round of the Munros. He has also walked across the Scottish mountains from coast to coast eleven times, ten of them on the TGO Challenge, organised by TGO magazine, for which Chris writes every month. Passionate about wild land and its conservation Chris serves on the Mountaineering Council of Scotland's Access & Conservation Committee. He is also a member of the John Muir Trust, the Scottish Wild Land Group, the Backpacker's Club, the Outdoor Writers Guild, the Society of Authors and Writers and Photographers Unlimited. Chris lives in the Cairngorms National Park.
