Ian Boydon author of Cicerone’s Mountain Biking guide to the Lake District is currently busy writing and researching a book to the Yorkshire Dales.
Ian sent me the route description for a ride he planned out earlier in the year that circumnavigates Reeth, so Mark and I headed over to the Dales yesterday to check it out.
Ian’s notes said ‘The legs are brutally warmed up by the ferociously steep climb up the face of Fremmington Edge” and he’s not wrong. Although the route starts with a tough climb, there are two fantastic descents, with sublime singletrack and scenic views of the Yorkshire Dales.
Ian’s descriptions were spot on, and we didn’t need get the map out of the camelbak once.
The ride starts from the fantastic Dales Bike Centre at Fremmington, and we finished off with a quick chat to the owners Stuart and Brenda, and a lovely slice of home-made cake in their cafe.
Ian’s new guidebook is due to be published early next year – keep an eye on the website for more details.
