Our wide range of techniques guidebooks include navigation skills, how to use a GPS, outdoor photography, indoor climbing, and much, much more.

So why not take advantage of these dark, wet nights and learn a new skill to make the most of your hill time in 2012.

Let’s take a look at the skill of snow avalanche prediction.

Our handy mini-guide is aimed at anyone who loves winter and snow sports from mountaineers, skiers, climbers to snowshoers and walkers. Here’s a couple of sample pages for you to take a closer look…

Avalanche describes the formation and evolution of snow and show practical methods for examining and analysing snow cover, and illustrates how to assess avalanche risk more precisely and reliably.

The mini-guide also includes a NivoTest which assists in estimating avalanche risk on a mountain route as well as in identifying steep slopes with a series of 25 questions. If the answer to the question is yes, you add up the points – the higher the total score, the higher the risk.
