Essential path work and habitat restoration work on Quinag

The John Muir Trust has recently been in touch with Cicerone to let us know about a path work and habitat restoration project.

They are working on the Quinag mountain range of the Scottish Highlands. Quinag boasts three separate Corbett summits – Sàil Ghorm, Sàil Gharbh and Spidean Coinich and lies within the Assynt National Scenic Area.

Parts of the trail from the Bealach up to Sàil Gharbh and Sàil Ghorm were in the process of becoming gullied, with the pathway becoming an ever deeper trench and new trample lines developing where it was too awkward to walk.

The Trust has created a new stretch of path, with a sign advising walkers of the new route. If left, these sections would erode still further and eventually need substantial work to stabilise.
