Cicerone author Roy Clark sets out on a 1250-mile cycle ride from London to Slovenia in aid of the Alzheimers Society and Macmillan Cancer Support on Saturday 14 September. With Justi Carey, Roy is co-author of two Cicerone guides to walking in Slovenia – Trekking in Slovenia and The Julian Alps of Slovenia – and the forthcoming Walking in the Karavanke, as well as a contributor to the inspirational multi-author Trekking in the Alps.
A team of three will be riding from London to Ljubljana on road bikes – London to Harwich then taking the ferry to the Hook of Holland. They take in 7 countries in total, riding through the Netherlands, following the Rhine Cycle Route (also the subject of a forthcoming Cicerone guide), passing through Belgium and Germany before eventually crossing the Austrian and Italian Alps into Slovenia.
STOP PRESS: Roy and his team mates finished the ride on schedule on 2 October, despite several days of relentless rain as they crossed the Alps. So far they’ve raised £5355 plus £975 from gift aid tax relief on top but it’s not too late to increase their total a bit – the charity giving page is still open at: www.charitygiving.co.uk/ltol.
