Great mountain days in Keswick

May 23rd, 2008 in Cicerone Authors, Cicerone Office by Sarah

Our very own Mark Richards and Paddy Dillon joined enthusiasts at the Keswick Mountain Festival last week. Both gave inspirational talks and slideshows, while Mark also spent the whole day out on the fells with a group of walkers. Mark returns!Pity they got wet on the top, but it was all smiles at the end, and a much needed pint of beer in Buttermere for the non-drivers!

Mark was launching his new book, Great Mountain Days in the Lake District, while Paddy took his audience on a trek of a lifetime, (well… a very long summer) down the length of the GR5 trail through the French Alps, then on down the length of the rocky spine of Corsica on the renowned GR20.

Could this be the ultimate gap year challenge, or even a great retirement project?

Podcasts

May 23rd, 2008 in Book Catalogue by Sarah

I’ve just loaded the latest batch of podcasts into the website. It has been a great experience to hear the ‘voice’ of our books in each recording. Hope you have enjoyed listening to them as much as we have.

There are still lots more to come, look out for them over the next weeks and months….

Kev Reynolds talks about the magic of Himalayan trekking

May 7th, 2008 in Cicerone Authors by Lesley

The Kangchenjunga rangeKev delighted a capacity audience of around 50 people in Stanford’s flagship store in Covent Garden last week. Describing each of the main trekking regions in Nepal in turn, he provided his audience with essential background knowledge and a stunning visual record of the nature of the landscape and people in these remote mountain areas.

The only thing that stopped him in his tracks was when one member of the audience asked where he would suggest trekking if you only had two weeks holiday available…his reaction was predictable…this is mountain region which deserves time to linger and absorb, and that once you have experienced it, you will feel drawn to return again and again.

I’m back…

cader.jpgHad a great time in Wales, and am feeling refreshed from all the fresh air – we were really lucky with the weather and found a great little campsite on the outskirts of Dolgellau.

Spent some of our time mountain biking in the local trails, and had a great day on Cader Idris – the cloud base was really high and you could see all the way to Snowdon.

It was the first time in many years that I had spent a weeks holiday here in the UK, and I have to say it was great not having to go through the hassle of flying. We just packed the car with the bikes and camping gear and headed off.
