Cicerone‘s stand at the Keswick Mountain festival was as busy as ever over the weekend. With authors Paddy Dillon and Ronald Turnbull giving talks on the GR20 and the Cape Wrath Trail in the Adventure Theatre on Friday, Pete Hawkins, author of our Navigation and Map and Compass guides leading introductory navigation courses, and Mark Richards, author of the Lakeland Fellranger guides, adding his own brand of excitement to the weekend, we enjoyed every minute of the festival. It was great to meet enthusiasts for Cicerone guides, both old and new. Thanks for coming. For those of you who missed Keswick, the weather was great, there was plenty of entertainment – from watching events such as triathlons, 10K races, half marathons and cycling sportives, to visiting trade stands, going on guided walks, mountain biking, navigating courses, climbing and canoeing.

Earlier this year, Cicerone published the final guidebook – The Far Eastern Fells – in our Lakeland Fellranger series. Written by Mark Richards, the Fellranger guidebooks mix the perfect balance of inspiration and information as they provide a comprehensive guide to the fells of the Lake District.
In every book, a dedicated chapter covers each fell, with a variety of routes, both popular and undiscovered depicted on Harvey maps, and illustrated with Mark’s own hand-drawn topos and summit panoramas.
To celebrate the completion of the series, we have created a specially designed box-set, which includes a copy of all 8 guidebooks in the range.
To take advantage of the Fellranger box-set, you’d best hurry, as the specially designed set has been produced as a Limited Edition. It’s its never too soon to start dropping hints for Christmas.
If you’ve already bought all eight Fellranger books you can just buy the box, together with a free index card (only available directly from Cicerone). To order a box, just call us on 01539 562069. Note we only have a limited number of boxes available.
In addition, you can track your progress with our handy peak bagging ticklists – simply download the list of fells, and keep a note of the date and a short account of when you walked each fell.
The idea is simple – pick up a walk leaflet, and all it costs you is a donation to help Fix the Fells. There are three separate walk leaflets available at the Rohan shop in Keswick; routes up Skiddaw, Walla Crag and the ever-popular Catbells are described with easy directions from the Rohan shop itself. Each walk is an extract from the relevant fell chapter in a Lakeland FELLRANGER guidebook. The full fell chapters in the guidebooks feature many more alternative routes, but the leaflets serve as an excellent introduction to the guidebook series.
Fix the Fells is a team of skilled rangers and volunteers who repair and maintain the mountain paths in the Lake District with funding from donations and partners. Cicerone already regularly support Fix the Fells through sales of Great Mountain Days in the Lake District, also by Mark Richards. A further two walk leaflets are now planned for the Rohan shop in Ambleside, which will feature walks to the summit of Loughrigg and Wansfell, both easily accessible from the centre of Ambleside.
Walked all the Wainwrights? Bagged all the Munros? How about completing all the Fellrangers?
The 8-volume Lakeland Fellranger series provides a comprehensive guide to 227 fells of the Lake District.
Each fell has its own dedicated chapter, and you can track your progress with our handy peak bagging ticklists – simply download the list for each book below, and keep a note of the date and description you walked each fell.
