Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Search function work?
The Search facility is designed to let you search on whatever enquiry you wish.
The basic “Books” search looks through all guide titles, classifications, contents, and descriptions to put together a list of all possible titles, ranked by the site for relevance to your original search.
The “Full Site” search performs the same checks, but for the entire site, including all articles and other pages, not just for the books directory.
If your search does not give you acceptable results, please click here and tell us what you were searching on and we will give you some feedback.
Search tips
Be as specific as possible. The system responds better to definite place or name enquiries rather than more general questions. “Walking in France” for instance, or “easy walking” may produce a unhelpfully general range of results. We are working on it, so your feedback is important to us.
To search on a specific phrase, please put it in double quote marks, for example “cabane de dix”.
Finding a guide using the index
Below the Search facility we have established an index of guides sorted firstly by Region and secondly by Activity. There is also a heading for our techniques guides. The index should take you quickly to search results for these regions and activities.
These results will be organised so that the most recently published guides are shown first. You can sort the results from a regional list by activity or an activity list by the regions the guides relate to.
