Editions Didier & Richard, Randonees pedestres et a ski Series

Sheet 11 (1:50,000)

Notes
The whole route is covered by the excellent map published by Editions Didier & Richard of Grenoble, in the series Randonnées pédestres et à ski, Massif et Parc National de la Vanoise (sheet 11) at a scale of 1:50,000. It is a reproduction of the IGN (Institut Géographique National) survey, with the main walking routes overprinted in blue, and refuges and gîtes highlighted in red. Sufficient detail is given at this scale to make the sheet perfectly adequate for step-by-step use along the trail, especially when used in conjunction with the present guidebook. It comes into its own in the planning stage at home, and will enable you to identify landmarks along the way. It is usually kept in stock at Stanfords in London, or should be available from shops in Modane.

Since the tour follows large sections of both GR5 and GR55 the standard waymark to look for is red and white horizontal stripes painted on trees, rocks or buildings. On occasion local walking tours adopt sections of the route, and then additional coloured stripes may also be seen. Hopefully these will not add too much confusion, and route descriptions in this book should keep you on course.
