Route: The Great Glen: Invergarry to Fort Augustus
This section of the Great Glen Cycle Route comprises a steep climb on a purpose-built cycle path out of Invergarry, a descending forest road, then a further purpose-built section to Aberchalder. The scene changes for the remainder of the way to Fort Augustus, along the canal towpath. The Invergarry to Aberchalder section is time consuming in comparison with the fast ride up the towpath. The total distance from Invergarry to Fort Augustus is 13.5km (8.5 miles), of which 8km (5 miles) is on the towpath. There is no shelter, nor is there an alternative for a return via the minor road and forest tracks as the Invervigar Burn bridge no longer exists and bikes are banned around Loch Lundie.
