40    Strategic Network Walks. Since publication, Transport for London has established its own ‘Strategic Walk Network’, which differs from those described as strategic walks in this book. The TfL network currently consists of just six routes: Capital Ring, Green Chain Walk, Jubilee Walkway, Lea Valley Walk, London Loop and the London section of the Thames Path. They are providing funding for these six in order to make them “exemplars of best practice”, particularly in terms of signage and literature. In due course, it is hoped that as many as possible of the other major routes will also reach this standard.

The TfL Strategic Walks have their own information service: phone 0870 240 6094 (national rate), email walking@tfl.gov.uk, website www.tfl.gov.uk/walking.

57    Capital Ring. The distances have been recalculated and the route of section 12 has been extended (see below), so that the total is now 125km (78 miles). Signage is now complete, and free leaflets have now been published for all 15 sections. A second edition of the guidebook is to be published in Spring 2006.

75    Capital Ring Section 12. The route now follows the New River Path between Finsbury Park and Clissold Park, instead of following roads.

132    Harefield Heights Circular Walk has been renamed Rickmansworth Lakes Circular Walk and has a revised route.

134    Havering Northern Area Circular Walks. The number of stiles is in fact 22 on the long route! (None on the short route.)

143    Iver Circular Walk. The route has been changed and the distance is now 7.6km (4.7 miles).

156    London Loop. Signage is expected to be complete by the end of 2006.

Free leaflets for all sections are expected to be available by Spring 2006.

191    New River Path. A new official guidebook has been published by Thames Water.

193    Nine Stiles Circular Walk has been renamed Denham Circular Walk, but the route is much the same.

223    Thames Path Southeast Extension. A free leaflet is now available, ‘Exploring London’s Working River’, available from local libraries and the Strategic Walks Information Service (see above).

228    Tylers Common to Warley Walk. The number of stiles is 17.

240    Widewater Lock Circular Walk has been renamed Grand Union Canal Circular Walk, but the route is much the same.
