‘Cycle Touring in the French Alps presents a personal selection of the most picturesque cycling routes through the mountains of south-east France between Lake Geneva and the Mediterranean. The eight tours include the classic high passes of the French Alps (Galibier, Iseran, Izoard, etc. ) where the cyclists can follow the tracks of the great champions of the Tour de France as well as many lesser known areas of the pre-Alps and southern Jura.
The guide describes seven circuits, Tours of the Ain, Chablais-Aravis, Mont Blanc, Chartreuse-Bauges, Belledonne, Ecrins and Grandes Rousses, and southern Alps plus the Grande Traverse of the Alps from Geneva to Nice. With the exception of the Tour of the Ain, which is a good introduction to cycle touring in the mountains, the routes are challenging, aimed at fit and experienced cyclists.
The routes are divided into day stages, generally 50-80km per day with an average of 1000-1500m height gain.  The guide provides clear maps of the route, and for each day stage there is a profile, a route outline, and a list of facilities and services to help with the route planning. Without neglecting the must see places, the tours have been designed to take you through the secret corners and forgotten back-waters of the region to experience all its charms. This would be a never-to-be-forgotten experience for keen, fit and adventurous cyclists.’

(Joyce Wilson, The Keswick Reminder January 2006)

'It is rewarding to read, providing a vast amount of information simply put for the reader to enjoy and make good use of in planning and riding these Alpine passes.
Even of you that feel that you may never actually enjoy the thrill of following any of these routes, the pictures accompanying the text are to be enjoyed in their own right'

(Cycling World, July 2006)
