WALKING IN AUSTRIA - Zillertal Alps
Reader Dave Horley tells us that the bus service from Mayrhofen to the Zillergrund Reservoir (Route 32) no longer provides a refreshment voucher on the final section from Barenbad to the dam, and sometimes involves changing to a shuttle bus at Barenbad.
Route 33 (Hintertux - Hollenstein Hut - Lanersbach) is no longer 'open' as described in the guide, as the trail across the scree slope referred to on pp 176/178 has been closed. To avoid this, start the walk at Madseit, taking a track across the Tuxertal, heading south and then southwest towards Hintertux. A new path has been created which now ascends steeply through forest to the Tulferalm where you join the walk as described on p178. This adds perhaps 1km to the walk and about 100m extra height gain.
