RJ Secor’s Aconcagua – A Climbing Guide, published in the US by The Mountaineers (first published in 1994), is an old guidebook with many black and white photographs.

Aconcagua – Summit of the Andes (2006), written by an Argentinean high mountain guide, Mauricio Fernandez, is a worthwhile read.

The Bradt Trekking Guide to Chile and Argentina by Tim Burford contains a nine-page chapter on Aconcagua.

Franz Schubert and Malte Sieber, German climbers living in Chile, published Adventure Handbook – Central Chile (2002), documenting 23 trekking tours in the Chilean Andes, and published by Viachile Editores, it may not be readily available in the west.

The Rough Guides are great for getting around: Chile and Argentina: The Rough Guide to Argentina by Danny Aeberhard, Andrew Benson, Rosalba O’Brien and Lucy Phillips (2008); The Rough Guide to Chile by Melissa Graham and Andrew Benson (2006).

Wayne Bernhardson is the author of an excellent guide to Chile which is part of the Moon Handbooks series.

The Highest Alps – A Record of the First Ascent of Aconcagua and Tupungato and the Exploration of the Surrounding Valleys, by EA Fitzgerald (1899), published by Methuen, is a wonderful study of the area, despite its age.

Geology of the Cordillera Principal, by Victor Ramos (Secretaria de Mineria de la Nación, Argentina, 1994). Geologica de la Region de Aconcagua, Victor Ramos (Dir Nac De Servicio Geologica, 1996) – a larger, comprehensive treatise in Spanish.
