The scale is 1:100,000 and only five are required (as against 25 in the blue 1:25,000 Carte de Randonée series) and are given here in route order: 156 (St-Etienne–Le Puy-en-Velay), 162 (Rodez–Millau), 161 (Montauban–Albi), 159 (Pau–Mont-de-Marsan) and 166 (Pau–Bayonne).
These are available from Stanfords map shop in London, from The Map Shop, Upton-upon-Severn or from many general bookshops but make sure you get the latest edition. However, at the time this edition was being prepared 156 (St Etienne–Le Puy-en-Velay) had not been published so until this is ready you will need to use No 50 (of the same title and on the same scale) in the former blue Cartes de Promenade series.
Users of previous editions of this guide have often asked why ‘proper’ Ordnance Survey-type maps are not provided in this book. Ideally the author would like them to be but problems of copyright and reprinting make it extremely complicated. Instead, to aid the pilgrim or walker in planning his or her journey, it has only been possible to include sketch maps of the route in this guide.
