Scrambling
Scrambling is defined as ascending steep ground using your hands as well as your feet. Many hillwalkers will have encountered easy scrambles, such as Jack’s Rake and Sharp Edge in the Lake District. The higher the grade, the more exposed and technically difficult the route. Safety comes from knowing when to use a rope and helmet, and how to protect yourself. A good introduction to this activity is The Hillwalker’s Guide to Mountaineering.
