Cicerone are hosting an open evening in conjunction with the Kendal Mountain Festival. Join us on the 16th November for a trekking workshop followed by a talk on Greenland by Paddy Dillon. Light refreshments will be provided and places are free but you must book a place to attend.
If you’re new to the idea of multi-day walking, or you are planning to trek somewhere new, Paddy and the Cicerone team will help you prepare and get the best out of your trip.
4pm Trekking workshop
The best trekking trips begin with a dream – and idea of a journey completed on foot, achieved through your own efforts.
Multi-day walks and day walks raise different issues to consider, whether its trying to get everything right on a first trek, or understanding the challenges and issues of trekking in far-off lands.
This workshop will help you to get ideas and new knowledge on:
• where to go
• how and when to do it
• what you need to know – tips on logistics, information, kit and fitness
Within the one-hour workshop, the content will be geared towards the particular needs of those attending. Whether it’s about a first multi-day walk, first Alpine trek, or trekking beyond the Alps. There will also be an extra half hour available at the end of the session to discuss particular issues.
5.30pm Trekking in Greenland – the Arctic Circle Trail
For a backpacking expedition with a difference, try hiking the Arctic Circle Trail. Greenland is one of the most inhospitable and sparsely populated places on the planet. Nonetheless, a growing number of hardy souls travel here every year to take on the Arctic Circle Trail, a 165km-long route that offers an incredible sense of space and silence from start to finish across one of the harshest environments in the world. Stretching between the towns of Kangerlussuaq and Sisimiut, trekking the trail takes 7 to 10 days. It is a fascinating route to explore, especially in its remoter parts.
Paddy’s illustrated talk will take you to this land of silence and solitude, and get you reaching for your boots and rucksack.
FREE admission – come for both events, or just one.
