The films

This year sees an expanded selection of films, with eight screening sessions over the course of the weekend featuring a ‘best of’ programme of adventure films from around the world. Covering a wide range of interests, from adventure sports and travel to more quirky celebrations of outdoor and mountain culture, it’s a bespoke selection that will make you laugh, cry, gasp, or simply inspire you to plan adventures of your own. We’re also delighted that, more than ever, this year’s programme includes a strong mix of films either directed by or featuring women.

Look out too for our special POFF Classics screenings – a programme of favourites from past festivals – plus a special POFF Taster session that provides a flavour of the films being screened as part of the headline sessions each day.

This year’s programme also includes two critically acclaimed feature films, both from Scottish directors. The latest work from Jen Randall (Psycho Vertical, Operation Moffat), Home tells the compelling story of UK adventurer Sarah Outen’s self-powered journey around the world. Directed by Robbie Fraser, Final Ascent: The Legend of Hamish MacInnes offers an intimate look at the life of a Scottish mountaineering legend.

The speakers

Short films are packaged together in themed sessions that tie in with each headline speaker. And with local heroes and big names (including a World Record holder and a Paralympic Gold Medallist) from the worlds of endurance cycling, adventure filmmaking, Arctic exploration, trail running, hand cycling, outdoor swimming and more, you can expect to hear incredible stories from some pretty remarkable people:

Miranda Krestovnikoff, Rich and Tom Seipp, Cat Barlow, Luke and Hazel Robertson, David Lintern and Charlie Ramsay, Karen Darke, Anna Neubert-Wood and Jenny Graham.

Outdoors

We have expanded our range of outdoor sessions, with two fantastic ride-outs led by Bspoke Cycles and Swift Trails, a special sunrise WanderWomen experience, plus a rare opportunity to experience an overnight camp at the John Muir Trust’s property at nearby Glenlude. Be quick though – our outdoor sessions book up fast!

Photography competition

Look out for the shortlisted entries in our inaugural photography competition, displayed in the Anne Younger Studio. The winner will be announced ahead of our final session on Sun 26 Jan, with fantastic prizes courtesy of Ian Linton Photography and Gledeknowe Guest House. For entry forms (deadline: 17 Jan) and full details, please contact Rich Rowe, e. press@eastgatearts.com

Tasty extras

Local activity companies, retailers and other partners have long been an integral part of the festival, with this year no different. Retail partners FINDRA (Innerleithen), Out & About and Trespass (both Peebles) are offering festival-goers 10% off all purchases over the weekend (just show your ticket); our near neighbour Peebles Physiotherapy will run free drop-in clinics over the three days; catering partner Risotto2Go will add to the range of food available from the Eastgate Theatre café; plus there are books, outdoor gear and competition prizes galore from festival sponsors such as the John Muir Trust, Wild Tree Adventures, Peebles Physiotherapy, Pocket Mountains, Marine Conservation Society and more.
