Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about publishing and which guides we make

Why don’t you do any British rock-climbing guides?

Mainly because we haven’t seen that we can dramatically improve on the quality of the existing guides from the BMC, Fell and Rock, SMC and Climbers Clubs and other local clubs and Rockfax.

Selective guides inevitably take people to fewer routes, whilst definitive guides are a labour of love (something we know well) that require a long-term commitment (something that we are happy to make) but may potentially damage the ability of local clubs to operate effectively.

We probably will do selective guides at some time in the future. Where we can co-operate with clubs on definitive guides we are happy to do so (for instance we are working with the Fell and Rock on a Lake District Winter Climbs for the winter of 2006).

In the short term, however, we will probably concentrate on our pioneering international climbs guides, and also our mountaineering guides.
