"This new edition with over 200 great days out is a great addition to your Lake
District guide selection."
Climbing Gear Reviews
"Two new volumes from Cicerone Press, effectively updates of the longstanding Brian Evans guides, but now
arranged more logically into North and South volumes rather than 'Scrambles' and 'More Scrambles'.
The writing has the same traditional charm as the original volumes - we're huge fans of the word 'craglet' which
as far as we know, Evans invented, but the layout, images and diagrams have been brought up to date along with
the gradings - 1 to 4 for difficulty and with a star system to highlight the best routes.
The northern volume covers 110 routes, the southern one 126, with a spread of difficulty from straightforward stuff
like Striding Edge through to routes that border on being full-on rock climbs.
Loads to go at in a well-produced, comprehensive pair of guidebooks."
Outdoors Magic
"Still the best guides to Lakeland Scrambling - and now even more so"
When it comes to tackling unfamiliar scrambles, a good and reliable guidebook is invaluable. Brian Evans was a founder of Cicerone, so it is hardly surprising that his guides are both good and reliable, and that his Scrambles in the Lake District books have become invaluable. But, over time, even mountains change. These latest editions include all the detailed descriptions, helpful illustrations and inspiring photos that users of the previous books have come to expect, but with and more up-to-date information (including a recognition of the effect of 2015's severe floods) that ensure they continue to remain invaluable to Lake District scramblers for years to come.
