Why stock Cicerone guidebooks?

  • Cicerone guides are written by outdoors people, for outdoors people.
  • Cicerone has been publishing guidebooks for well over 45 years, so we should know what we're doing!
  • We support our retailers with good information, in-store visits, promotional materials and display equipment, and we promote our range of guidebooks with advertising, marketing activity and through social media.

We are a small team, and work extremely hard with some wonderful authors, editors, cartographers and designers to make the guides as trustworthy as possible – reliable, accurate and attractively presented. Our reputation is the result of who we are and what we do. We believe in the Cicerone brand, and work hard to tell the world about it.

How and where to order

You can order Cicerone guidebooks from a variety of places; it's really down to what suits you and your business needs the best. Our books are warehouse and distributed by Booksource, and there are also a wide range of wholesalers where you can source our guidebooks. You can find more information here, as ever if you have any questions, or want some advice then just email us or call on 01539 562069.

Choosing a range

  • Start with a range of your local titles. At over 340 titles, the Cicerone range may appear to be overwhelming. So don't worry if you want to start, or stay small.
  • Want to stock a wider range? Add a selection of our bestselling titles - suggestions of bestselling titles can be found on our resources and downloads page.
  • Need help planning a suitable range, or would like us to come and visit you? Contact us, and we'll do our best to help.

Start by looking at the titles which are important for your area. Then look at some of the best selling British titles, particularly the guidebooks to some of the more popular National Trails and walking areas such as the Lake District, Scotland and Snowdonia. Finally consider a small selection of techniques books, such as Map and Compass. This should give you a good introductory range. If you think you may be able to sell overseas walking guides, contact us for guidance or take a look at our bestsellers list.

Support for retailers

We will never try to persuade you to stock something inappropriate, and will be happy to help you adjust your range of titles to get the best return on the space. If space is an issue, we may be able to help by loaning you a display spinner free of charge, for as long as you need it. We can:

  • Help you plan the most suitable range to stock
  • Provide information through our newsletter and catalogues to keep track of new guidebooks
  • Assist with stock control and re-ordering
  • Arrange author talks and support in-store events
  • For direct accounts we can give extra terms to support in-store promotions
  • In-store visits from one of our representatives
  • Provide free display equipment for Cicerone guidebooks (on long-term loan from us)

We send catalogues to all retailers on our database twice each year. In addition, we issue around four trade newsletters each year. The newsletters highlight the publishing programme for the coming months, list recent titles and current best sellers, and provide background information and news about Cicerone.

As well as these various communications, we also try to visit many of our trade customers, both in the outdoor trade and bookshops. If you would like one of us to visit you to discuss any aspect of trading with Cicerone, contact Sarah Spencer by email, or call on 01539 562069 to arrange a convenient time to visit.
