The Pyrenees are a wonderland for walking, mountaineering, skiing and adventure, offering fantastic scenery, great places to stay, good weather and, above all, variety. Climbers can enjoy unrivaled challenges, while walkers have endless opportunities… on the busier French side or the wilder Spanish side of the chain.
The coast-to-coast long-distance footpaths (Atlantic to Mediterranean), comprising the Spanish GR11, the French GR10 and the shorter, higher Pyrenean Haute Route, pass through green countryside, climbing to snow-white peaks separated by valleys of untouched natural beauty. Those who prefer an easier pace can stay closer to civilization, enjoying the culture and history of the area.
Cicerone's guide to The Pyrenees gives valley-by-valley coverage of all the walking, climbing, skiing and mountaineering possibilities in the range. The large reference book helps you decide upon the area or valley best suited to your needs.
There are plenty of alternatives to these long-distance routes, with plenty of walking and climbing opportunities, as well as numerous summer mountain activities in Andorra, including climbing, scrambling and via ferrata routes.
Across the Pyrenees runs the main route of the Way of St James, from Le Puy in the Massif Central to Santiago in Spain. Cicerone offers three books on this particular route, The Way of St James-France, The Way of St James-Spain and specifically for cyclists The Way of St James.
