Join us at the Kendal Mountain Festivals 2006!
Between 10th and 19th November, Kendal will once again host one of the most prestigious Mountain Festivals in the world. Cicerone are proud to sponsor the Kendal Mountain Book Festival, a fantastic week-long programme of workshops, discussions and lectures. The book festival's significance is recognised by the fact that this year, for the first time, the Boardman Tasker Mountain Literature Award will be announced and presented during the festival.
Join Cicerone, and meet some of our authors, at Turning Passion into Print, one of a series of writing workshops to be held during the festival.
The writing workshops take place over the first weekend of the festival (11th/12th November), and are for both existing and aspiring writers. They cover the three main areas of outdoor writing - guidebooks, journals for publication, and life stories. Cicerone are always looking for new areas to publish on, and new authors to write their guides, so if you are passionate about the outdoors and would like to find out more about what it takes to write a successful guidebook, Turning Passion into Print will be ideal for you. In this workshop Cicerone are bringing together a number of their authors, each with a different area of specialism, each with a different perspective on researching and writing guidebooks, and on the lifestyle that goes with it. And we can give you some feedback on your own writing and ideas for new guides, should you wish!
The Kendal Mountain Festivals are an 'extravaganza of films, books, art and photography, debates, presentations, film making, entertainment, humour and drama from the mountain communities of the world.'
For many years now the Kendal Mountain Film Festival has been providing an internationally recognised competition in film-making, helping to push standards to new heights. More recently the festival has grown in size and appeal, and this year sees the third year of the Kendal Mountain Book Festival, which not only features lectures and debates with such names as Benedict Allen, Sir Chris Bonington, Stephen Venables, George Band and David Roberts; but also a series of writing workshops, and the announcement and presentation of the prestigious Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature. Cicerone are sponsors of the Kendal Mountain Book Festival in partnership with Arts and Business.
