Cicerone App FAQs
What is the Cicerone app?
The Cicerone App is a digital version of our trusted guidebooks, enhanced with GPS-enabled maps and mapped facilities to give you extra confidence on the trail. You’ll find expert-curated routes crafted by authors who know each area inside out, tools to help you plan with confidence using detailed facilities information and local landmarks, GPS-enabled maps you can download for signal-free navigation, and an adventure library that keeps your purchased guides close at hand.
If I already have the guidebook, do I need the app as well?
The printed or eBook versions contain all the route information you need. However, the app offers the convenience of GPS navigation and interactive maps for all your guidebooks, wherever you are. Use it alongside your printed guide or eBook to enjoy both the detail of a book and the ease of digital navigation, or use it alone as your digital guide on the trail.
Which devices is the app compatible with?
The app is compatible with most modern smartphones running iOS or Android. Specific version requirements are listed in the app store.
Is the app free to download?
The app is free to download, and you can add routes you’d like by purchasing them on the Cicerone website. Once purchased, they’ll appear in your app, ready to download and use on your device.
How do I download the Cicerone app?
On iPhone (iOS):

Are there any free routes offered in the app?
Yes, there is a free sample route from our Short Walks Windermere, Ambleside & Grasmere guide in your library to get you started. Try it for yourself before purchasing other routes. The free route can't be swapped for another one.
Can I use the app offline?
Yes. Maps and facilities information can be downloaded in advance, allowing you to navigate without an internet connection, which is especially useful in remote areas.
What mapping does the app use?
In partnership with Lovell Johns, Cicerone has developed mapping that covers the UK, Europe and parts of the rest of the world at a variety of scales. This mapping is highly flexible, allowing authors to add important details and remove information that is not helpful to the reader. Our expert authors have added route lines from GPX files to help you find your way.
How will I know if a new version of the app is available?
Your device will notify you when updates are available through the App Store or Google Play. We would recommend that you keep the app up to date to benefit from new features and improvements.
Can I change the language of the app?
Yes. The app’s interface language follows your device’s system language settings. If you’re unsure how to change this, check your device brand's support pages, as the language can’t be changed in the app.
How do I purchase a Cicerone book to use in the app?
Books for the app can be purchased through the Cicerone website. Find the book you’d like to buy, click on the app version and select ‘buy’. You can then proceed through the usual checkout process. Your purchases remain available in your account indefinitely. Once you purchase an app book, you can download and use it whenever you like. Unlike eBooks, there isn’t an expiry date.
Why isn’t my book showing up in the app?
If you can't see your book showing in the app, don't worry. Check that your Cicerone app account uses the same email address you used to purchase the app product. If you think you may have ordered using the wrong email address, please contact info@cicerone.co.uk, and we can manually update the email address on the order for you.

How do I restore my purchases if I reinstall the app?
