Book of the Month – The Mountains of Nerja

Our book for this month is The Mountains of Nerja. The little town of Nerja is relatively unspoilt, nestling under a range of mountains on the coast just 40 minutes drive from Malaga.

Vital stats:

  • 24 graded day walks suitable for most abilities, most in the mountains, with some directly from Nerja or nearby Maro.
  • An ideal destination for early spring, when wildflowers are abundant, but the mountains remain a cool sanctuary, with views to the distant Sierra Nevada
  • Ridges, gorges, beautiful traditional white hillside villages, with a geological history dating back over 150 million years.

What is so special about this book?

These are very varied walks, all within a relatively short drive from Nerja, which makes an ideal base. Access from Malaga is quick and easy. The landscape is highly dramatic, with incredibly steep hillsides and far-reaching views. A great destination for a short break.

A one-line review:

Go to Nerja in early spring. The light is clear, there are no crowds, and discover another world just minutes from the Costa del Sol.
