Autumn In The Lake District

Beautiful autumnal photos of the Lake District, including Grasmere, Windemere and Buttermere, among other areas, courtesy of fantastic photographer and friend of Cicerone, Andrew Clayborough.

I have a few favourite locations during autumn, my favourite season of the year. One of these is the easy-to-access shoreline of Grasmere: one of my most successful images was taken here and later featured on the social media channels of organisations as diverse as National Geographic and Amateur Photographer. I find the variety of trees here gives a wide range of colours that are better later in the autumn when the hues are muted.

Langdale is a favourite location whatever the season; it is a special place to me because my winning image for the 2014 Wainwright Society photo competition was taken here.

Buttermere is a popular location for photographers. I have been here on an autumn morning at 6 am and it’s often teaming with photographers like paparazzi around a celebrity - a true photographers’ mecca and rightly so.

A great viewpoint for Derwent Water is Castle Crag, and looking the other way, the mass of Glaramara can be seen sitting in the very heart of Borrowdale.

If you are out this autumn keep an eye on the weather - autumn is cloud-inversion season and heading high is the best way to view this phenomenon.

I would like to say thank you to Cicerone for giving me the opportunity to share my photographs. This is my final photo-essay, having now completed all four seasons. Good luck and happy snapping - I hope you get that ever-elusive perfect image.
